Kenneth Simpson

Ken Simpson was wounded-in-action while on patrol on November 27, 1969 - Thanksgiving evening.

Simpson received a gunshot wound from an AK-47 to his right knee and was taken to a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) facility. After being transferred between other medical facilities, Simpson was moved to Valley Forge General Hospital in Pennsylvania. Simpson endured several additional surgeries, but ultimately the wound resulted in him losing his leg above the knee.

Simpson was awarded two Purple Hearts for wounds received in combat. Reflecting on the experience, Simpson says he is thankful, because many others lost their lives.
