Ted Craiglow
Ted Craiglow was drafted into the Marine Corps in September 1969, serving for nearly two years including a deployment to Vietnam.
In April 1979, just two months into his time in Vietnam, Craiglow was on patrol in South Vietnam. After completing their patrol and returning to base, the base came under mortar fire. While making his way to a bunker, a mortar shell exploded near his position, resulting in shrapnel wounds. Later that same year, in October, Craiglow was on a company operation in Quang Nam Province. Craiglow’s squad was on point and taking heavy incoming fire from the enemy. About a half-mile up the hill where they were operating, Craiglow heard a loud “crack” and was knocked on his back. After a medic in the field administered aid, he was medivaced to Da Nang, before being taken to Japan and then on to Bethesda Naval Hospital.
Along with the Purple Heart, Cpl Craiglow was awarded numerous medals and commendations during his service, including the Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, the National Defense Service Medal, and more.
U.S. Marine Corps Corporal (Cpl) Ted Craiglow represented his fellow Purple Heart heroes as Ohio’s honoree during the 2023 Purple Heart Patriot Project Mission.
