Rebuilding Sergeant Peck: How I Put Body and Soul Back Together After Afghanistan
WHAT: The National Purple Heart Hall of Honor Inc. will host a book signing featuring Purple Heart recipient and United States Marine Corps Sgt. John Peck, author of Rebuilding Sergeant Peck: How I Put Body and Soul Back Together After Afghanistan.
Sgt. Peck was first injured during a tour in Iraq's western Anbar province in 2007. As the machine gunner in the convoy's lead vehicle, he sustained a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) when his vehicle was hit by an (IED). The injury required two years in therapy at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego.
After rehabilitation, he re-enlisted and deployed in April 2010 to Afghanistan where he was again injured when an IED with 30 pounds of homemade explosives (HME) exploded underneath him. His arms and legs were amputated to save his life.
In 2016, Sgt. Peck became the recipient of a groundbreaking double-arm transplant.
