Albert Lirette
Albert Lirette was drafted into the U.S. Army in July 1967. During his service, Lirette was stationed on a Navy ship that conducted search-and-destroy operations over the course of two years and he was awarded four Purple Hearts.
Lirette was awarded his first Purple Heart in March 1968, when he received wounds to his left arm from a hand grenade. His second and third Purple Hearts were both awarded for wounds suffered on June 11, 1968, when he was hit in the leg with the M79 grenade launcher and then later was wounded on the side of my back as a result of a mortar attack. Lirette’s fourth came in September of the same year, when he was hit in his spine.
In addition to his four Purple Hearts, Sgt. Albert Lirette Sr. received numerous commendations and awards, including the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Army Commendation Medal with “V” device.
Today, Lirette is an active member of numerous veterans’ groups, including the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America, Disabled Veterans of America, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and more.
In 2021, Lirette was Louisiana’s honoree during the Purple Heart Patriot Project Mission.
