Orange County Post: Purple Heart Recipients Honored In New Windsor
Thirty-three Purple Heart recipients of America’s combat wounded veterans came to the New York Area this week from all across the United States for ceremonies being held to honor their valor. They went to West Point, the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor and Newburgh’s Armory on National Purple Heart Day, August 7.
After a breakfast, at West Point’s Thayer Hotel, an Army Black Knight Jump Team Demo and dinner at the West Point Club on Tuesday, on Wednesday they visited the newly renovated Washington’s Headquarters site in the City of Newburgh and then went for a ceremony at New Windsor’s Purple Heart Hall of Honor where they explored the museum, and had a stunningly impressive group photo taken. The day ended with an escort to the Newburgh Armory by Rolling Thunder, a “Welcome Home” Rally with keynote speaker and Medal of Honor Recipient Paul Bucha. Mary Kay Messenger brought the packed Armory to their feet with renditions of the National Anthem and a set of other service songs that recognized each branch.
