Lehigh Valley Live: Slate Belt foreign wars veteran with 2 Purple Hearts honored

She was born in Germany, received a college tennis scholarship, served in the U.S. military, was shot while serving in Iraq, was severely injured by an IED in Afghanistan, earned her Ph.D. and is now a high school English teacher.

Vanessa Schieber from Upper Mount Bethel Township has and continues to live a remarkable life.

The 37-year-old U.S. Army Veteran represented Pennsylvania Purple Heart recipients in September as part of the Purple Heart Patriot Project at the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor, New York, just north of West Point.
